18/09/2009 High performance for Pressalit Care's new Wet Floor Former.

A partnership with one of the UK’s leading authorities on composite engineering has led to Pressalit Care introducing its new Wet Floor Former for use in the construction of level access showering and wet rooms.

The Advanced Composites Manufacturing Centre at the University of Plymouth has worked with Pressalit Care UK in the design and development of the new Wet Floor Former. The resulting design demonstrates a 40% increase in flexural strength, and more than 90% increase in linear stiffness over the company’s previous model.

The preformed base is a quick, simple and cost effective means of creating a wet floor area, designed for installation in both concrete and timber floors. Manufactured from toughened glass reinforced plastic (GRP) for strength and durability, Pressalit Care Wet Floor Formers can safely take a loading of up to 30 stone (190kg) catering for the weight of both a wheelchair user and a carer.

Dr Stephen Grove, Senior Lecturer at the University of Plymouth, says “We have evaluated the strength, stiffness and overall laminate quality of many of Pressalit Care’s products. The research, design, and rigorous testing of this Wet Floor Former, combined with an improved manufacturing process, have resulted in a well-engineered, effective product.”

The formers are tested within the guidelines outlined in BS-EN-ISO14125.

Installation and handling is made easy with the light weight of the Pressalit Care formers. The overall tray depth is 22mm, with innovative trim line markings embossed on the back of the former to give accurate guidance to installers, allowing for maximum flexibility where site restrictions and obstacles prevent full size installation.

In timber floor installations, the former can be placed directly and secured onto floor joists. With a textured surface, the formers alleviate the need for further surface preparation to aid adhesion to most proprietary vinyl safety flooring.

The formers feature optional waste positions, achieved by rotating the base. All sizes are available with optional waste gullies for gravity or pumped water outlet installations.

There are six Pressalit Care Wet Floor Formers available: in square format, starting at 900mm x 900mm to 1200mm x 1200mm, and rectangular format, starting at 1200mm x 800mm to 1800mm x 850mm.

The Pressalit Care Wet Floor Formers can be used in conjunction with the extensive range of Pressalit Care door options, all designed and manufactured in the UK.

Pressalit Care has been designing high quality, long term bathroom solutions for health care providers for over thirty years, meeting best practice and providing value for money.
